Creative, clean, user centred design

| Having worked in this industry for many years, I've been very fortunate to have been a part of and also witnessed many examples of good and bad.

I have seen good and bad design practices take place, watched stunning UI be born from nothing and sometimes the opposite, experienced great productive, working relationships with clients and teams, whilst some experiences unfortunately, were a tad toxic.

Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows?

This is the design journey and arena I signed up for. It can't all be sunshine, lollipops and rainbows everyday but I would never say I made a wrong choice in choosing Digital and UX as fields that amazingly, still inspire and excite me.

It's still great to still see fantastic, inspiring design, listen and read clever, funny Medium articles about effective and inspiring user experiences that are both good and bad. There's no official rulebook on how to do this. There are of course many varying opinions on how it should be done. With a plethora of information out there, it's very easy to get overwhelmed and start to panic.

Keep it simple

I've always believed to keep it simple and learn to embrace the negative alongside the positive. You're not expected to know everything but there's nothing saying you can't still learn. Design is subjective so you will have days when folk are embracing your design with open arms thinking it's a modern masterpeice, whilst at the other end, you will have them running for the nearest exit in panic whilst defriending you in all social media platforms.

I look to keep things simple. Keep the lines of communication open. Just talk together. Don't over complicate. Don't overthink. Leave your ego at the door, and have some fun along the way. Bumps are expected in any project workflow and should be anticipated. It doesn't mean there are problems. It's a call for further discussion and communication working collaboratively to solve problems creatively.

I try to instill this approach into all my design work, discussions and project workflow. Asking questions can better inform my design decisions, whilst understanding the end user better through effective user research, discussion and testing can only benefit all parties. I try to keep the goals and objectives at the forefront of all projects.

I won't do this on my own or presume to know all the answers. Working together creatively to achieve the objective is the goal.
